Welcome to Shelly’s World - my space, my place to write my thoughts.
I started blogging in November of 2004. I had just laid down my career to stay home and raise my son. As I struggled with the initial isolation, I found blogging to be a good means of outside interaction. I have met so many great people and learned so many things about life, faith, parenting and servitude since joining the online community.
My first blog was called Stand Up and Walk, a quote from one of the gospels. My original intent was to share faith perspectives through my writing. I quickly discovered that I was neither a preacher, teacher nor apologeticist. I decided to gear my writing toward other things in my life, although I occasionally will write about faith and how it intersects with parts of my daily life. After the evolution of my blog, I changed the name to Shelly’s Journal in January of 2006.
My blog is truly a reflection of my life right at this moment. You can look back through the archives and notice peaks of certain activities and topics at certain times. It’s a snapshot of my life, and the pieces I choose to share with you here.
I don’t really seek to be a “big time” blog. I just like to write, and have grown to enjoy this forum. I love my small contingent of readers from all over the world who comment and encourage in the pages of this journal and also through email. I have been truly blessed by them all.
I hope to continue to write here and chronicle my journey as a gift to my two sons, so they will have a record of this time of our lives.

Who is Shelly?
I am a 41 y.o. housewife. I grew up in a small town in Northern Wisconsin in the 1970s and 80s. I always aspired to be a career woman and never expected to have any children. I left the Midwest in early 1996 and initially landed in Maryland where I met the love of my life. We moved to Virginia in 1997 to get closer to his three children. (It looked like I was off the hook for kids.)
I climbed the corporate ladder and came to an em pass. I found I had my ladder up against the wrong wall. I quit my job as a traffic manager and took time off to reflect what I wanted to do with my life. During that time, a Bible came into my hands and suddenly my heart and life changed as I decided to follow Jesus. I went back to work as an administrative assistant, using my background to really make a difference in areas where I worked.
My husband, too, would have a faith epiphany, and shortly after that we decided that we needed to grow our family. After a miscarriage in early 2003, I gave birth to a bright-eyed boy in March of 2004. The adjustment to home life was a big one. I had always had so much personal freedom, and now taking care of a little one heavily infringed upon it - took it away. It presented a new opportunity of allowing God to work in our lives. So much so that we completed our family with another sweet boy in September of 2006.
