It’s Just Not Fast Enough

April 12, 2007

25 Minute Weights
15 minute kickboxing
37 minute run

I got a charge in my workout routine today. I visited my OBGYN and I still am the same weight I was at my 6 week follow up - 20 lbs. over my pre-pregnancy weight. What a drag - considering I’ve been working out for a good 3 months and was doing jack squat before then.

Drastic measures are in order. Eating.

I guess Carmen’s new blog has come along just in time!

31 Minute Run - PR for this particular trail
Random kickboxing, weightlifting, abs

Gil was home this morning, so I hoofed it out the door before the 80 degree temps cut in. I didn’t want to push it too hard in the light of the tough run I had yesterday, but I still relished the chance to run without a stroller in front of me. I was not disappointed. It reminded me of my old days as a runner, although I certainly lost momentum on the last 10 minutes of the run. I pushed it and paid the piper.

Later this morning while Bump helped Daddy put up a new swing for Zach, I did some random stuff on our porch (aka the workout room). I punched the bag and did some kickboxing stuff. I lifted weights - my arms really need to tone up. I went to the ab routine, too. I probably got another 30 minutes in. Zach watched in facination from the pak and play as he wrestled with his caterpillar and bunny rabbit.

I’m glad I’m working out because otherwise I don’t think I’d even have a chance to blog.

Oh yeah, I’m going to be starting a new blog soon - the Virginia Pizza Blog…more on this to come. I am off to spend some time with Little Joseph’s Quilt of Many Colors (or the Amazing Technicolor Dream Quilt.)

In Which We Run, Then Walk

March 27, 2007

45 Minute Run with kiddos in the stroller
30 Minute Walk with kiddos in the stroller
90 crunches

We ran, and then we walked back along the trail in search of the lost drum stick that had bounced out of the stroller along the way. We found it and headed back….

Too Sick to Move - Almost

March 26, 2007

90 Crunches

That’s it. That’s all I could manage today. I’ve been battling a cold for a week with Bump and Zach along for the ride. They got souped up cough syrup from the pediatricians’ today. And I get…Robatussin. Yum. Yum.

It’s amazing how a 3 year old will not even slow down for a cough and runny nose. But, the new cough medicine will make him drowsier. Which means, “say goodnight Bump.” He’s out.

And I’m heading that way myself here in a minute.

40 Minute Kick boxing workout
5 Minute Shelly’s Ab routine

It’s funny because the kick boxing workout also includes a warm up and cool down, so the actual workout is only 20 minutes. But in that time you really get your heart rate up and work up a sweat. I was dripping by the end of the last routine, but yet wasn’t frantically doing some cardio thing (like Turbo Jam). The kicks really get it going.

Weather is teasing us out here. While we are seeing warmer temps, the high winds make it hard to take the kids on a stroller run. I’m still not fit enough to overcome physical challenges like the wind and stroller together. So I may chill for a day or two to see if they back off later in the week.

Hope you all had a nice weekend.

Shelly Does Kung Fu Fighting - Ha! Ha!

February 26, 2007

50 Minute Kickboxing video
8 minute Shelly Ab Routine

I’ve been meaning to try some kickboxing, since we have a bag and all. It seemed like a fun workout and after doing some Turbo Jam, I thought I’d check a few videos out from the library. Now none of the videos actually use a bag for their workout - which is disappointing, but this one Kickboxing for Dummies featuring Keli Roberts, gives you the basic moves, show you a few little routines and I hope is a starter. I was sweating like crazy when I was done.

I made up my own ab routine using things that I’ve learned over the years. I used the 30 second concept. I had my watch timer going off every 30 seconds, at which I would change to a different routine that works a different set of the ab muscles. My abs are sorer tonight than they have been doing any of the other routines.

The Rubber Meets the Road

February 22, 2007

38 Minute Run
15 Minute ab Jam

I ran the same route as the other day, except 7 minutes slower. I was really in my head, so that’s mostly why. When I push myself, I have to concentrate more on my running and can’t zone out.

Didn’t get the abs in until about an hour ago when Zach went down and Bump was watching his “pre bedtime” video. (No it was not Kipper the Dog - I think he’s finally burned out on the one we have. But Kipper will be back, I predict, after a few day rest.) Half of the fun of the Turbo Jam videos is watching all the other people working out in the background. They are so smiley and jamming, it’s funny. The two guys in the ab jam crack me up every time, along with Mindy - the girl who’s doing the modifications for those less in shape. She’s always making the funniest faces.

I’m not going to worry about weight or measurements, but just stick my head down and plow forward. Thanks to all for the encouragement.
